Resection of locally advanced thymic carcinoid tumors.
We read with interest the article by Dr. Sakuragi and colleagues concerning the iterative resection of recurrent thymic carcinoid [1]. I agree with the conclusion of the authors that aggressive surgical resection of such a neoplasm improves survival. This is an uncommon disease, and there is no sufficient experience in the English-language literature about the ‘ideal’ treatment. Due to its indo...

A 35-year-old man was admitted to Korea University Anam Hospital for evaluation of intermittent chest pain. Computed tomography of the chest showed enlargement of a previously identified anterior mediastinal mass and also a well-defined, circumscribed mass in the subcarinal area, surrounded by the roof of the left atrium, right pulmonary artery, and the carina. Complete resection of the intrape...
متن کاملCardiopulmonary bypass for resection of low tracheal haemangioma.
A 3 month old girl, weighing 4000 g, presented with a capillary haemangioma obstructing the lower trachea and left main bronchus; it was not responsive to steroids. Using cardiopulmonary bypass to maintain oxygenation the tumour was excised. We are not aware that this technique has been used before for the resection of such an obstructive haemangioma.
متن کاملRadical surgical resection of advanced thymoma and thymic carcinoma infiltrating the heart or great vessels with cardiopulmonary bypass support
BACKGROUND Radical surgical resection of advanced thymic tumors invading either the heart or great vessels facing towards the heart is uncommonly performed because of the potential morbidity and mortality. To achieve a complete tumor resection, the use of cardiolpulmonary bypass (CPB) support might be necessary. METHODS Retrospective analysis of the results in six patients, who underwent radi...
متن کاملPrognostic grading after complete resection for thymic malignancies.
OBJECTIVE Despite the World Health Organization (WHO) and Masaoka classifications have been widely accepted as the main describers of prognosis determinants in thymic malignancies, so far, these have been considered independently from one another. We have reviewed our single-centre 40-year results after surgical treatment of thymic malignancies evaluating the inter-relationships between the cli...
